Police assaulted, woman arrested

A driver under the influence will face court over a number of offences, including assault police, after an incident at Port Elliot on Saturday.

About 7.30am Saturday 27 February police stopped a car on Port Elliot Road after it was seen travelling on the incorrect side of the road. Of great concern to police was that there was an unrestrained child on the rear seat.

Police spoke to the driver, a 25-year-old local woman, and conducted a drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine. The test will be sent to Forensic Science SA for further analysis.

The woman allegedly refused to provide her name and details to patrols and was placed under arrest. During the arrest the woman indecently assaulted a police officer. She was charged with drive in a manner dangerous, driving under the influence, refuse name and address, not restraining a child, indecent assault to police and resist arrest.

The woman also received an on the spot fine and a drug diversion for possession of drug equipment. Her car was defected and impounded for 28 days and she was given a driver direction notice. She will appear in the Victor Harbor Magistrate Court at a later date.
