Here is a roundup of police news on the Fleurieu in the past week.


Driver dies after Victor Harbor crash


A man has died in hospital following a crash at Victor Harbor last week.


About 10.50am on Wednesday 16 October, police and paramedics responded to a crash in Pine Avenue, Victor Harbor, where a Hyundai sedan had collided with two parked cars.


The driver, a 96-year-old Victor Harbor man, was taken to the South Coast District Hospital. Sadly, he died in hospital on Tuesday 22 October. Major Crash is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.


The man's death takes the state's road toll to 88, compared to 57 at the same time last year.


Arson in Aldinga


Southern District detectives are investigating a case of arson at Aldinga and are seeking help from the local community.


Sometime between 10pm on Wednesday 23 October and 8am on Thursday 24 October, a fire was deliberately lit at the rear of a croquet club on Port Road. The croquet pitch and other items were damaged in the fire.


Anyone with information on the fire or saw anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.


Traffic news


A concerning number of failed drug tests dominate traffic offences in the past week.


At 11am on Monday, police stopped a 34-year-old woman from Myponga on Main South Road, Myponga. When drug tested, she allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine and was issued with a 24-hour driver direction not to drive.


Police were at Normanville about 1.45pm on Monday, when they stopped a 43-year-old man from Second Valley for a roadside drug test. He allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine and was issued with a 24-hour driver direction not to drive.


About 9.50am on Tuesday 22 October, police were on Kangaroo Island and stopped a 55-year-old local man for a drug test. He allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis and was issued with a 24-hour driver direction not to drive.


Kangaroo Island police stopped a 23-year-old Kingscote man for a drug test about 1.20pm on Tuesday. He allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis and was issued with a 24-hour driver direction not to drive.


At 5.30pm on Tuesday, police in Kingscote stopped over a 40-year-old local man who when drug tested, allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis. He was issued with a 24-hour driver direction not to drive.


Kangaroo Island police stopped a 72-year-old local man about 9.40pm on Tuesday who allegedly returned a positive drug test to methamphetamine. He was issued with a 24-hour driver direction not to drive.


At 6.50pm on Wednesday 23 October, police on Kangaroo Island stopped a 52-year-old man from Kingscote after a check on his vehicle showed that it was unregistered and uninsured. He was breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.050. He was issued with an expiation notice for drink driving and also a driver direction. Police saw the man driving again about 8pm the same night, in breach of his driver direction and in the same unregistered and uninsured vehicle. He received another expiation notice for these second offences.


Just before 3pm on Wednesday, police on Kangaroo Island stopped a 59-year-old local woman on the Playford Highway, Newland. Checks on her licence and the car she was driving revealed that she was disqualified from driving and the car was unregistered, uninsured and had been defected. She was reported for all offences and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.


Those people who returned positive drug samples may face drug driving charges pending results of a forensic analysis.
