SA Police temporarily suspend static RBT operations

The head of SAPOL traffic policing in South Australia, Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott, has announced that SAPOL have temporarily suspended all static Random Breath Test (RBT) operations in response to the contribution to national and state health strategies in addressing the current COVID-19 situation.

Assistant Commissioner Parrott says, “A number of other Australian police agencies have already undertaken a similar course of action. Our priority is to balance road safety needs with the health risks associated with COVID-19 for operational police officers and the community more broadly.”

Mobile RBT will continue to be used as a legitimate and safe method to continue to enforce road safety and provide operational members with the confidence to do so.

Assistant Commissioner Parrott says, “Drink and Drug driving was a contributing factor in 11 lives lost on South Australian roads in 2019. South Australia Police will continue to enforce drink and drug driving using mobile random testing.  If you drink or take drugs and drive, you can be caught anywhere, anytime.”
