Search for missing men and boat
SAPOL’s Water Operations Unit, Australian Search and Rescue (AusSAR) and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) are working together to search for a boat missing in waters south of Port Lincoln.
About 3pm on Thursday 3 September two men, aged 57 and 48-years, left Coffin Bay in boat named ‘Margrel’, hull identification number RF83S, bound for Goolwa.
About 11pm Friday the men made contact with a friend stating they were having engine trouble and were going to divert to Kangaroo Island. The men were not in distress at this time.
Yesterday, Sunday 6 September, the friend of the men notified police as she had not heard from them again; police began a search at this time.
This morning the search was recommenced with two AusSAR Challenger Aircraft currently in the search area. A Poseidon from the RAAF will also assist later today.
Anyone who has had contact with the men or sees/has information about the missing boat is urged to call the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131444.
Man arrested after stabbing at Aldinga
Police have arrested a man after a serious assault at Aldinga.
Just after 12.30am on Sunday 6 September, patrols were called to a house on Flour Mill Road, after reports a man had stabbed another man in the chest with a screwdriver.
Police arrested the suspect on arrival, while the victim, a 54-year-old man from Aldinga, was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with non-life threatening injuries.
The 24-year-old from Sturt is currently at Noarlunga Hospital for a psychiatric assessment and is expected to be charged with serious offences later today.
Both men are known to each other.
Provisional driver caught speeding
A provisional driver has been caught speeding at Strathalbyn in the same area where two people lost their lives in a fatal crash last week.
Just before 9.30am on Saturday 5 September Hills Fleurieu Highway Patrol were conducting speed detection duties on Long Valley Road, when they detected a Mitsubishi station wagon travelling at 131km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The driver, a 19-year-old man from Strathalbyn, will be issued with an on the spot fine (E-Ticket) totalling $2002 for speeding and breaching his provisional licence conditions.
Witnesses sought to Victor Harbor assault
Police are seeking information from the local Victor Harbor community after a cyclist assaulted an elderly woman last week.
At around 7am on Sunday 30 August, a woman in her 70s was walking her dog along the footpath of The Esplanade near Island Street, when a man riding a bike along the same footpath threatened the woman, then rammed his bike into the woman, pushing her backwards and causing her to fall.
The woman was assisted by a couple who were passing by, with police believing they may be able to assist with the identity of the male suspect.
The elderly woman, broke her wrist in the incident has since been treated in hospital.
Police are seeking the two people that assisted the injured woman to come forward and contact police and anyone with information on this or similar incidents involving a male on a bicycle to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Traffic Report
At about 5.15pm, Sunday 6 September, police stopped a 52-year-old man from Clayton Bay on Wellington Road, Wistow. Checks revealed his licence was cancelled, he submitted to a driver screening test and returned positive to methamphetamine. He was arrested and bailed to appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 21 October.
About 11.15am on Monday 31 August, police stopped a vehicle on the South Eastern Freeway at Paechtown. The driver, a 30-year-old Christie Downs man, had never held a licence and tested positive to methamphetamine. He was arrested and bailed to appear in court at a later date.
At 10.20pm on Monday, police stopped a 27-year-old Kingscote woman on Telegraph Road, Kingscote. She tested positive to methamphetamine and was issued a direction not to drive for 24 hours. The sample was sent for forensic testing.
