Strathalbyn Community Swimming Pool will not open for summer as planned, while work continues on the nearby river embankment.

The pool, which is operated by the YMCA, was due to open for the season next Monday 11 October until mid-April next year.

Alexandrina Council has been investigating erosion to the riverbank in Soldiers Memorial Gardens, between the pool and the River Angas, since mid-September.

It says its priority is to ensure safety in the area while it looks into the issue.

“All aspects of pool operations and recirculation pipework have undergone testing and everything is running as normal. 

“Through this testing we have been able to rule out water coming from the pool has affected the river bank area. 

“However, ongoing necessary testing is causing delays in the normal routine procedures for returning the pool from winter mode.”

Investigations and work in the river bank area are ongoing.

The council plans to issue an update on the situation, and hopefully advise of the new season opening date, early next week.
