Port Elliot Cricket Club celebrate new training set-up

The Port Elliot Cricket Club recently opened their new training facility and it looms as a real ‘game-changer’ for the club. The new facility has four nets and has been laid on one of the netball courts formerly used by the Port Elliot Netball Club, which sadly folded in recent years. This reduced the project cost considerably, given the good condition of the existing surface, which was shared between the club and the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund. The total project cost was approximately $45,000.

This has been a work-in-progress for most of the last decade. With the expansion of junior teams at the club, the previous nets were in regular use and the club was unable to keep up the maintenance for both the fencing and matting. The nets will still be available for community use moving forward.

“We are hoping to consolidate our training to fewer nights of the week for all our grades to ensure there is a ‘whole club’ feel to everything we do, which has already been evident in our Sunday pre-season training,” said Seb Goldsmith, who is Vice President - junior pathways at the club.

“Having four nets is already making a massive difference, with more ability to do 'one-on-one’ skills training while full scale sessions can continue.”
