Port Elliot in good shape to stay undefeated in Great Southern Cricket

Port Elliot are in a great position to continue their early season undefeated run after posting 9/266 on day one of their clash with Goolwa during round three action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. Port Elliot batted first and after losing Ethan Spriggs (0) early, Luke Collett and Ben Griffiths added 59 runs for the second wicket before Collett went for 23. Griffiths went on to make 51 from 83 balls, but when the Bloods slipped to 5/104, Goolwa were back in the game. Another significant partnership was needed as Tyson Levy joined skipper Joel Harris at the crease. This pair added 91 for the sixth wicket with Harris making 26 from 78 balls. Levy continued on to top score with a critical 91 from just 78 balls (13 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the Bloods finished their 70 overs in a strong position. Goolwa tried eight bowlers with skipper Sam Carlyle (3/49) and Andy Evans (2/38) the chief wicket takers. 


McLaren Districts are in a good position to register their first win of the season after compiling 5/256 on day one of their clash with Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga. The Crushers had a number of good partnerships starting with a 54-run opening stand between Daniel Bruce (24) and Zac Hodges. Hodges then combined with Jim Ryan to add 63 for the second wicket before Hodges went for 74 from 101 balls (9 x 4’s). Ryan continued on to make 56 (111 balls), while Justin Twartz (45) and Luke Goodieson (34) made valuable contributions. Mathew Crawford (3/57), Vinnie Nizzola (1/44) and Ryan Haverty (1/47) were the wicket takers for the Mudlarks. 


The game between Encounter Bay and Noarlunga is evenly poised after the Bays made 9/188 from their 70 overs on day one of the clash at Encounter Bay. The home side got themselves into a good position after the tea break at 3/108 with Matt Overall (41) and Jason Parry (40) the leading run scorers. The Shoes came right back into the contest, capturing 5/15 in the middle order, as the Bays slumped to 8/123. Determined lower order resistance from Zac Thompson (25 not out), Chris Butler (24) and Kieran Garrett (13 not out) lifted their side to a competitive total at the end of the day. Noarlunga skipper Chad Parrish (4/46) and Cam Bullard (4/57) were the main wicket takers for the Shoes.


Victor Harbor and Yankalilla battled it out on Saturday as ‘Victor’ made 8/157 on day one of their clash at Yankalilla. The Vipers’ innings was built around a patient knock of 49 (127 balls) from skipper Josh Boyko. Lachlan Hywood (18) and Tim Watson (15) also made handy contributions. The Tigers bowlers kept it tight all day with Chris Clark (2/23) and Aaron Smith (2/28) the multiple wicket takers. 


Willunga has already claimed first innings points in their match against Mount Compass on the turf at Burgess Oval. Mount Compass batted first but could only manage a total of 102 before being bowled out in the 34th over. Willunga shared the wickets around with Simon Roberts (3/19), Luke Harding (2/16), Daniel Hockham (2/21) and Finlay Seers (2/25) the multiple wicket takers. The Demons took until just the 24th over to polish off the target for the loss of three wickets. Harding (42), Roberts (31) and Andy Waller (21 not out) were the main contributors for Willunga as they finished the day at 7/164, an overall lead of 62 runs. Ethan Anderson (3/39) and Josh Dalitz (2/35) were the leading wicket takers for Mount Compass.
