The Port Elliot Show needs 100 extra volunteers to act as COVID Marshals (or help in other ways) so the event can go ahead as planned on the 9th and 10th of October.
The Southern Agricultural Society Management Committee has put out a plea on Facebook, asking for people to sign up to help.
Volunteers would not be expected to be on duty all day but would work on a roster, acting as COVID Marshals or helping to make sure the number of allowable visitors on the grounds or in a pavilion at one time wasn’t exceeded.
Becoming a COVID Marshal is a simple process. The free online course can be completed in about 30 minutes.
Anyone who is able or willing to help the show should contact Show Secretary, Gayle Garrett on 8552 9328 or 0419 494 275.
You can also contact the Show Society via their Facebook page.
Last year’s show was cancelled due to the pandemic.
COVID-19 restrictions will mean this year’s show will be a little different from those in the past but there will still be the two days of animals, entertainment, indoor exhibits/competitions, trade sites, food vans and side-shows.
The year will be the 142nd show for the Southern Agricultural Society.
The first show took place at Middleton in 1869.
The current Port Elliot Show ground site was purchased by the society in 1889.
