Port Noarlunga win a thriller against Flagstaff Hill in Southern Football Women's 'A' Grade

Port Noarlunga consolidated their position in the top-four with a hard-fought five-point victory against reigning premier Flagstaff Hill during round six action in the Southern Football League (SFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition yesterday. ‘Flaggies’ held a slender one-point lead at halftime in a tough and low scoring affair. ‘Porties’ kicked the only two goals of the third term to take a handy 12-point lead at the last change. The Falcons kicked the only goal of the last quarter but ultimately fell short as the Cockle Divers won 4.9 (33) to 4.4 (28). Samantha Lynch kicked two goals for Port Noarlunga, while Elizabeth Johnson also kicked two goals for Flagstaff Hill. Best players for ‘Porties’ included Elisha Scriven, Charmaine Lynch, Samantha Lynch, Philippa Worthley and Jessica Couch. Flagstaff Hill was best served by Johnson, Amber Cloughessy, Rachel Crockart, Emily Brockhurst and Brooke Watson.


Reynella maintained top spot on the ladder with a 174-point win against Noarlunga at Reynella on Sunday. The Wine Flies kicked 13 goals in each half to win 26.18 (174) to 0.0 (0). Reynella had 13 different goalkickers with Shanique West (5), Tyler Davies (4) and Sarah Bourn (3) leading the way. Best players for the Wine Flies included West, Zannah Loxton, Anja Bancevic, Caitlin Williams and Morgan Blackwell. Best players for the Shoes were Elyshiah Forrest, Steph Alderman, Skye Wilson, Karlee Moffatt and Febi Mansell. 


Cove Cobras won their fourth game of the season to maintain their spot in the top-four after defeating Hackham by 171 points yesterday. The Cobras led by 43 points at quarter time, 76 points at halftime, and 119 points at three quarter time, before winning 25.21 (171) to 0.0 (0). The Cobras had 11 different goalkickers with Jaime Norup kicking seven majors in a best-on-ground display. Rachel Littlefield supported Norup with five goals of her own. Joining Norup and Littlefield in the best players for Cove were Georgia Hayford, Kate Galley, Jasmine Dietrich and Tamara Harrison. Best players for the Hawks included Claire Wheeler, Kristy Thomson, Nevara Richards, Olivia Leverton-Burzacott and Maddison Hay.


Christies Beach won their fifth game of the season to stay in second spot after defeating Aldinga by 126 points at Bice Oval. The final scores were Christies Beach 18.18 (126) to Aldinga 0.0 (0). Brooke O’Brien kicked five goals for the Saints, while teammate Cadence Bryowsky slotted four majors. Best players for ‘Christies’ were Brina Thompson-Fitzgerald, Isabella Zito, Angelique Dean, O’Brien and Natalie Huckstepp. The Sharks were best served by Rhylee McCall, Jessica Sandercock, Paige Curtin, Olivia Savage and Tayla Mousley.
