Tracks within the Lesueur Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island will be closed today and tomorrow as a prescribed burn is undertaken.

The two-day burn is planned for Howard Track - Porky Flat in Lesueur Conservation Park on the eastern side of Cape Hard Road (15 km South-West of Penneshaw and 5km South-West of Cape Willoughby Lighthouse).

The burn will commence at 10am and is expected to be complete by 6pm.

It will affect about 105 hectares within the park.

The objective of the burn is to reduce high fuel loads within the park, reducing the risk of bushfire across the landscape.

Light smoke may affect Cape Hart Road.

Smoke may be seen from Willson River Road and Cape Willoughby Road.

Dead Man Track and Howard Track within Lesueur Conservation Park will be closed.

Some smoke and fire activity may be observed on the day and following the burn and will be patrolled until it is safe.

The burn will be carried out by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Local CFS have been invited to attend. A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice if conditions change.
