Proposed name change for Yank

The District Council of Yankalilla is asking for community feedback on a proposed name change to 'Fleurieu Coast Council', as part of its representation review.

Every eight years councils are required by law to undertake a representation review to ensure it represents the community effectively.

This process includes reviewing the composition of the council; considering changes to ward boundaries or abolishing wards altogether; and exploring potential changes to the council's name or ward names.

In 2016,  the last review retained the two wards, Field and Light, represented by a total of nine councillors, with the mayor elected by those nine from among their number.

The council says the proposed new name, Fleurieu Coast Council, aligns with its established place brand to best represent the district today and into the future.

Implementing the change would likely incur significant costs for the cash-strapped district.

Live online public information sessions will be held on Tuesday 28 January from 3pm to 4.30pm and Wednesday 29 January from 5.30pm to 7pm.

There will also be a Community Conversations pop-up at the council's Australia Day Event  at the Normanville Village Green on Sunday 26 January.

Visit the council’s YourSay website for full details of the representation review and proposed name change and to complete a survey.
