A man was arrested after a pursuit in the Southern Suburbs Saturday morning.
About 9.45am Saturday 26 March police were travelling along O’Sullivan Beach Road when they spotted a black Lexus sedan with no number plates and missing a wheel. Checks revealed the car had been stolen from Beaumont between Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 March.
Patrols activated their emergency lights in an attempt to pull over the car, but it refused and took off at speed. Police pursued the car for approximately five minutes before terminating due to safety reasons. The Lexus was last seen in the back streets of Christie Downs.
A short time later the car was seen again by patrols who did not pursue the vehicle but directed PolAir to its location. PolAir then followed the car until it came to a stop at the intersection of Sheriffs Road and the Southern Expressway.
As patrols approached the Lexus it will be alleged the car reversed into the front of a police car, then forward into a member of the publics car. Thankfully there were no injuries.
As police attempted to apprehend the driver he allegedly resisted violently and bit a police officer on the arm. The 23-year-old Andrews Farm man has been taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for a medical assessment, and is expected to be charged with serious offences. He will appear in court today, Monday 28 March.
The injured police officer was taken to the Noarlunga Hospital for an assessment. Anyone who saw the black Lexus or who has dash-cam footage and not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report on line at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – you can remain anonymous.
