The Royal Automobile Association (RAA) has made six high priority recommendations to improve safety on the Adelaide to Victor Harbor Road, which it says need urgent attention within the next 12 months.
It has made seven further safety recommendations in its wide-ranging report on the gateway to the Fleurieu Peninsula, released at the end of May.
The high priorities include overtaking lanes, shoulder seals and wire rope barriers south of Mount Compass and a roundabout at the Goolwa Road Intersection.
High priority recommendations concern issues of very high importance to the local community; have significant implications to road safety; are located on a busy road corridor; and are important to tourism and industry in the region.
Other recommendations include a grade separated interchange at the intersection of Seaview and Budgens Roads; extending the planned road duplication to Mount Compass; and extending the 60km/h and 80km/h zones around Mount Compass.
The report suggests consideration of a roundabout at the Hindmarsh Tiers Road intersection; a right turn lane at Crows Nest Road; and realigning the intersection with Nangkita Road.
The RAA regularly reviews the state’s regional roads to identify where upgrades are needed to improve safety and productivity.
This advocacy work is driven by feedback provided by RAA members with extensive surveys emailed to regional members to determine where they experience safety and mobility issues.
It then liaises with local stakeholders and road authorities and undertakes site investigations, and reports on the issues identified in the region with recommendations to improve the road network.
Full details of RAA road assessments around South Australia and the full report on the Victor Harbor Road are available on the RAA website.
