Fleurieu police have been conducting a highly visible presence across the Hills Fleurieu LSA, with a focus on pedestrian and vehicle movement at significant level road crossings.
This is in response to a number of recent rail incidents on the Fleurieu Peninsula, one which resulted in the tragic death of a pedestrian after he was struck by a passenger train.
Police have been keeping a close watch on people and educating them on safe behaviours around rail crossings. Superintendent Amit Sareen, the Officer in Charge of Hills Fleurieu LSA says, “Crossing train or tram tracks against warning signals or in a dangerous manner only puts you and others at significant risk of serious injury or worse”.
Since Monday 8 January police have issued 20 expiation notices in the Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Middleton and Goolwa areas. Police will continue to monitor the public around rail crossings and take an educative approach – reminding members of the public about safe road behaviours. However Police will expiate if required.
