Ready to go to the pollsThe City of Onkaparinga is holding a supplementary election.

The ballots have been sent out and an enthusiastic pool of 18 candidates are vying for a seat on the City of Onkaparinga council.


The supplementary election is to replace Beau Cowan, who resigned from his position as one of two Mid Coast Ward councillors following a cancer diagnosis.


Among the candidates are some previous Onkaparinga councillors such as Rob De Jonge, Jon Deakin and Sue Tonkin, while there are also some fresh faces.


Voters will choose between volunteers, club members, parents, some small business owners, an Australian Army veteran, an archery world record holder, a lawyer, a teacher, and more.


Ballot materials should have found their way to voters’ mailboxes prior to Monday 24 August. 


The close of voting is 12noon Monday 7 September. 

Scrutiny and count will take place from 9am on Tuesday 8 September.

The Mid Coast ward covers the suburbs of Lonsdale, Reynella, O'Sullivan Beach, Christie Downs, Christies Beach, Noarlunga Downs, Port Noarlunga, Port Noarlunga South and Seaford Meadows.


The incoming councillor will work alongside fellow Mid Coast Ward councillor Bill Jamieson.
