Reigning Premier Cove into SFLW Grand FinalCove players celebrate their Preliminary Final win over Flagstaff Hill.

Preliminary Final (Flagstaff Hill v Cove)

Reigning premier Cove has booked their spot in the SFLW Grand Final with a commanding 45-point win over Flagstaff Hill in the Preliminary Final at Flagstaff Hill yesterday. The Cobras started their premiership defence slowly winning just one of their first seven games but have played some excellent Football in the back half of the season winning nine of their last 11 matches. Flagstaff Hill finished second at the end of the minor round and needed the double chance after being defeated by minor premier Aldinga in the Second Semi-Final last week. Cove got off to a fast start to lead by 17 points at quarter time and they built on this lead in the second term by adding two more goals to take a very handy 27-point lead into the long break. It was more of the same after the break with Flagstaff Hill struggling to get any momentum and although Cove didn’t add a major in the third term, they still extended their lead out to 30 points at the last change. Two further goals to the Cobras in the final term saw them eventually win 6.11 (47) to 0.2 (2). Felicity Oliver and Samantha Franson each kicked two goals for Cove while Oliver, Lauren Grigg, Dana O’Brien, Franson, Lauren Kenny and Seraphina Moon were named in the best players. For Flagstaff Hill Chloe Meyers, Hannah Griffin and Alana Baker were their best. The Grand Final between Aldinga and Cove will be played at Aldinga Oval on Sunday 15 September at 2.40pm.
