Reigning premier McLaren Districts in the hunt in Great Southern Football

McLaren Districts moved up to second spot on the ladder after defeating Willunga by 26 points during round 11 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at McLaren Vale on Saturday. Willunga started well to lead by 12 points at quarter time, before McLaren Districts hit back to lead by five points at the long break. The third quarter would prove decisive as the Eagles kicked four unanswered goals to take a 32-point lead into the last quarter as they went on to win 11.12 (78) to 7.10 (52). Cameron Jarrett was a standout for McLaren Districts with six goals, while Ryan Sherry kicked two majors for the Demons. Best players for the Eagles were Lachlan Mathews, Jarrett, Henry Mathews, Lachlan Camm, Jarrad Bollenhagen and Codey Ellison. Best for Willunga included Cameron Hutchens, Tyson Schmid, Tom Messenger, Jake Shirvington, Brady McDonald and Harrison Mills.


Mt Compass won their fourth game of the season following a comfortable 87-point win at home against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Bulldogs won every quarter on their way to an 18.8 (116) to 4.5 (29) victory. Tom Pinyon kicked six goals for Mt Compass, while Will Zimmermann kicked five majors in a best-on-ground performance. Other good players for Mt Compass included Lochie Nash, Cody Connor, Jayden Weetman and Shannon Jones. Best players for the Magpies were Ryan Carnelly, Jett Reid, Patrick Grigg, Fred Nissen, Ken Angus and Samuel O'Flaherty.


Myponga-Sellicks kept their top-three hopes alive with a comprehensive 95-point win at Yankalilla. The Mudlarks led at every change to win 20.12 (132) to 5.7 (37). Myponga-Sellicks had 11 different goalkickers with Darren Shillabeer, Ben Kennedy and Mitch Wilkins all kicking three majors. The Mudlarks were best served by Wilkins, Luke Whitford, Ben Kennedy, Connor Sampson, Jayden Heinze and Levi Proude. Best players for the Tigers included Jacob Parsons, Liam Gerber, Brad Fitzgerald, Jack Fitzgerald, Will Hogben and Scott Biddle.


Langhorne Creek consolidated their spot in the top-five with a comfortable 52-point win against local rival Strathalbyn. Mitch Cleggett kicked five goals as the Hawks triumphed 15.19 (109) to 9.3 (57). Darcy Clifford (3) and Matt Uebergang (2) were the other multiple goalkickers for Langhorne Creek, while Ben Simounds (in his 200th game for Strathalbyn) and Lachlan Fox kicked two goals each for the Roosters. Best players for Langhorne Creek were Angus Cole, Matt Dominish, Jarrod Kellock, William Bruce, Cleggett and Peter Reichelt. Best for Strathalbyn included Tay Crawford-Sandison, Jacob Wright, Marc Elliott, Thomas Welk, Jake Stafford and Brock Keding.


Victor Harbor stretched their unbeaten streak to 11 games after defeating Encounter Bay by 66 points at Encounter Bay yesterday. ‘Victor’ won every quarter as they triumphed 17.10 (112) to 7.4 (46). Sam Basham continued his good season with four goals (52 for the season), while Jackson Elmes kicked three majors. Ben Davis and Kyron Pepper kicked two goals each for the Bays. Reece Kleinig, Jesse McKinnon, Bryce Gibbs, Zac Dowling, Matthew Wiese and Elmes were among the best for Victor Harbor, while Encounter Bay was best served by Cory Gamble, Tony Gibson, Tyler Baldock, Tyler McCreanor, Marcus Lippett and James Bradford.
