Reigning premier Port Noarlunga moved two games clear at the top of the ladder after defeating Blackwood by 11 points during round nine action in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition at Port Noarlunga yesterday. The Cockle Divers held an 11-point lead at halftime, before kicking four unanswered goals in the third term to lead by 36 points at the final change. Blackwood showed plenty of fight in the last quarter as they kicked four goals to none, but the damage was done as ‘Porties’ won 7.2 (44) to 5.3 (33). Port Noarlunga’s best players were Maddy Craggs, Hope Elliott, Siobhan I'Dell, Tegan Lane, Aisha White-Winter and Tegan Yeomans. Best players for the Woods included Simi Dhaliwal, Caitlin Hill (2 goals), Olivia Emes (2 goals), Sophie Parker, Lila Cormack-Pinder and Holly Winchester.
Hackham won their third game of the season after a 20-point win over Christies Beach. The game was tight for the first three quarters with the Hawks holding a slender four-point lead at three-quarter time. Hackham finished strongly in the last term, kicking three unanswered goals, to win 6.6 (42) to 3.4 (22). Shannon Gaskell, Rikki-Lee Escritt (3 goals), Shayley MacFadyen, Olivia Cumming, Samantha Smyth and Emily Unger were named best for the Hawks, while for the Saints, their best included Chloe Brooks, Lekisha Nelson, Shakaya Johnson, Shania-Rayne Walker-Murphy and Madison Marsh.
Cove moved up to second spot on the ladder following their comfortable 88-point win at Aldinga yesterday. The Cobras led by 58 points at halftime before going on to win 14.10 (94) to 1.0 (6). Angelique Dean and Emily Risitano kicked three goals each for the Cobras, while Aldinga’s sole goalkicker was Audrey Worthley. Cove was best served by Ella Gill, Dean, Jaime Norup, Ashleigh Need, Emily Hocking and Georgia Hayford, while best for the Sharks were Chelsea Todd, Dakota Oniszk, Holly Wilde, Zoe De Kievit, Aleisha Hawke and Ayla Regione.
Reynella won their fourth game of the season after a convincing 88-point win against Ironbank Cherry Gardens on Saturday night. Neive Morgan kicked seven goals for the Wine Flies to fire her side to a 14.13 (97) to 1.3 (9) victory. Mia Brennan was named best for Reynella and she was well supported by Miller Thompson, Morgan, Ashlee Wright, Caitlin Williams and Summer Weir. Charlize McKenzie kicked the only goal for the Thunderers, while their best players included Audrey Myers, Tahlia Ward, Lauren Kahl, Olivia Walker-Obushak and Jesse Grigg.
