Reigning premier Reynella got their premiership defence off to a good start with a comfortable 63-point win at Hackham during round one action in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition yesterday. The Wine Flies led by 24 points at quarter time, 35 points at halftime, and 43 points at the last change before winning 9.11 (65) to 0.2 (2). Best players for the Wine Flies were Charlotte Watson, Sienna Garner, Tayla Wright, Zannah Loxton, Mia Brennan and Chloe Lea. The Hawks were best served by Melissa Belmont, Alana Browne, Charlotte Carter, Imogen Dwyer, Dakota Dwyer and Nevara Richards.
Port Noarlunga started their season with a thrilling four-point win against Flagstaff Hill at Port Noarlunga yesterday. ‘Porties’ trailed by seven points at three-quarter time in a low-scoring encounter, before they kicked two unanswered goals in the final term to win 3.6 (24) to 2.8 (20). Ella Henty-Smith, Teegan Mesecke and Kalahni Howes were the goalkickers for the Cockle Divers, while for the Falcons, Brooke Watson and Emma Hoppo kicked their two goals. Carli Morton, Kalahni Bissi, Rubi Sutton, Howes, Mesecke and Nikki Parker were named best for Port Noarlunga. Rachel Crockart, Watson, Kelsey Rodman, Kyah Smith, Emma Hodgson and Amelia Morriss were best for the Falcons.
Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their first game in the SFLW competition after defeating Noarlunga by 67 points at Cherry Gardens yesterday. The home side led at every change before winning 12.12 (84) to 2.5 (17). Skipper Olivia Walker-Obushak (3), Paige Ridley (2), Estelle McPhee (2) and Kymberley Knitschke (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Ironbank Cherry Gardens.
