Reigning premier Western Districts got their Kangaroo Island Football League (KIFL) season off to the perfect start with a comprehensive 108-point win over Parndana yesterday. The Saints led by 60 points at halftime, before kicking a further 12 goals to four in the second half to win 22.14 (146) to 5.8 (38). Lleyton Hedges kicked eight goals in a best-on-ground display for Western Districts, while Lloyd Coulson kicked five majors. Korelle Wintinna kicked two goals for the Roosters. Joining Hedges in the best players for the Saints were Tate Barrett, Nathan Stock, Caleb Whittle, and Dylan Lockett. Parndana’s best included Zach Trethewey, Trad McMulkin, and Bailey Gaskin.
Wisanger started their 2023 campaign with a big 120-point win against Dudley United. The Panthers led by 26 points at quarter time, 68 points at halftime, and 82 points at the last change, before winning 25.10 (160) to 6.4 (40). Khyal Stead was a star up forward for Wisanger with nine goals, and Nick Shurven kicked four. Ethan Stoeckel kicked two goals for Dudley United. Best players for the Panthers were Sam Clifford, Liam Sampson, Brok Viney-Obst, Luke Shurven, and Stead. On a tough day for the Eagles, their best were Rory Florance, Sam McLeay, and Trae Lovering.
