Construction has started on a new toilet block at The Bluff boat ramp.
The City of Victor Harbor says the boat ramp is an increasingly popular launching destination for local recreational boaters and those visiting from across the state.
The need for the facility is particularly acute in the summer months, when visitation is at its peak.
The council conducted community consultation in early 2021 and has been working towards a suitable design and location for the public toilets, incorporating ongoing advice from State Heritage.
It has selected a simple design to achieve a small footprint, with minimal visual impact on the surrounding environment.
It features two separate cubicles, including one enabling disability access.
A new disability access park and ramp has also been installed in the parking bay just before the boat ramp exit. A new connecting path links this to the main footpath.
Construction of the new toilet block is expected to be complete in March.
A budget of $110,000 was allocated to the project, supported by grant funding from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
Temporary toilets have been installed at the Bluff Boat Ramp for to cater for visitors during the 2022/23 peak summer period.
