A scaffold is set to be installed at the historic obelisk at Freeman's Knob in Port Elliot from Monday 11 August.
Weather permitting, repair work will begin immediately and is expected to be completed by late October.
Alexandrina Council says temporary fencing will remain in place throughout the project.
The Obelisk was damaged by lightning during a severe storm in December 2023. The council says repairs were delayed due to the insurance claim process and then heritage considerations when it was discovered that the damage to the interior construction of the structure was more complex than originally assessed.
The historic monument overlooks Port Elliot’s Horseshoe Bay and was built as a navigation aid for shipping in January 1852, following the official proclamation of Port Elliot as a port.
