Revamped Victor Harbor playground gets kids' seal of approvalMae and Rex road testing the playground.

The old train playground on the Victor Harbor foreshore has been doubled in size and jazzed up into a nature play space.

Formally known as the George T Fisher playground, the new space was officially opened in July.

Rex, aged 12, and Mae, aged seven, spent a morning giving it a complete road test and voiced their opinions afterwards.

Rex spent a lot of time with the sand pit activities and appreciated having more room to move around.

“I especially like the climbing fort, where you can use the fireman’s pole to swing down into the fenced area without using the gate.”

He thought it was as good as the Goolwa nature playground, with different features.

“Those balance beams are awesome!”

Patiently waiting for a turn on the very popular swings, Mae used her time to thoroughly explore the space.

“I like the cubby house with the rope climb up and the bridge made of rope,” she said.

“The best bit is the balance beams.”

The playground was last refurbished in 2002 and the City of Victor Harbor won a state government grant towards the $430,000 upgrade.

The kids’ grandmother, Jan, said the extra seating provided is a bonus when supervising play.

“The best thing about this place is having a couple of hours of free entertainment – school holidays get really expensive!”

The final verdict from Rex and Mae was two thumbs up.

“Money well spent,” according to Rex.

“I want to go back on it tomorrow,” said Mae.

  • George T Fisher nature playground is located on Flinders Parade, Victor Harbor.
