2022 premier Reynella won their eighth game of the season after defeating the previously unbeaten Port Noarlunga by 21 points during round nine action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. The Wine Flies led by 29 points at halftime, before Port Noarlunga came right back into contention in the third quarter with four goals to one to cut the margin to nine points at the last change. Reynella steadied in the last term to run out winners 16.6 (102) to 12.9 (81). Tom Schirmer (4), Marc Borholm (3), James Papworth (2) and Mitch Scotland (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Reynella, while Zac Sproule kicked six majors for ‘Porties’. Best players for Reynella were Jacob McDonald, Bradley Potter, Schirmer, Samuel Whitbread, Matthew Stanford and Daniel Whitaker. Nathaniel Paredes, Sproule, Nathan Hedger, Joshua Johns, Tom Dix and Brodie Smith were named best for the Cockle Divers.
Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their third game of the season after defeating Aldinga by 11 points at Cherry Gardens yesterday. The Thunderers led at every change to win 15.14 (104) to 13.15 (93). Nick Marshall (4), Kaea Cleary (3), Tyler Quinn (2) and Conor Lidstone (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Ironbank Cherry Gardens, while Jayden Scott was a standout for the Sharks with eight goals. Jake Pokoina, Levi Grigg, Dion Davidson, Quinn, Cleary and Marshall were named best for the Thunderers. Scott, Ryan Parry, Jack Langdon, Samuel Bentley, Matthew Beinke and Luke Watson were Aldinga’s best players.
Flagstaff Hill moved to the top of the SFL ladder after a convincing 130-point win against Cove. The Falcons won every quarter on their way to a 24.18 (162) to 4.8 (32) victory. ‘Flaggies’ had 10 different goalkickers including Blake Aldridge and Aiden Grayson who snagged four majors each, while Chris Buersch kicked two goals for the Cobras. Best for the Falcons included Caleb McCormick, Reece Milsom, Samuel Smith, D’Arcy Mitchell, Samuel Tharaldsen and Brayden Heyward-Ferors. Cove was served best by Alex Marra, James Wilton, Kyle Stoldt, Antony McWilliams, Adam Kleinig and Jethro Buss.
Noarlunga consolidated their spot in the top-five with a 22-point win at Happy Valley. The Shoes dominated the first quarter to jump out to a handy 28-point lead, before the Vikings hit back to reduce the margin to just four points at the last change. Noarlunga steadied with the only two goals of the last quarter to win 9.12 (66) to 6.8 (44). Nick Mott kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance for Noarlunga, while Cody Cox and Harry Davenport each kicked two goals for Happy Valley. Joining Mott in the best players for the Shoes were Terry Kathopoulis, Luke Ross, Jake Anderson, Beau Donaldson and Josh Beard. Best players for the Vikings included Lachlan Hamilton, Matthew Lillis, Billy Wilson, Rhys Stringer, Max Gill and Sam Flett.
Christies Beach won their third game for the season after defeating Morphett Vale by 14 points yesterday. Morphett Vale led at halftime by two points, but ‘Christies’ kicked five goals to two in the second half to win 9.11 (65) to 7.9 (51). Jace Daris kicked two goals for the Saints, while Stanley Tipiloura kicked three majors for the Emus. Thomas Kirwan, Austin Hogg, Emmerson White, Aidan Coakley, Michael Mazey and Harry Caught were named best for Christies Beach. Best for the Emus included Leroy Marsh, Robert Schindler-Taylor, Tipiloura, Connor Lock, Brian Gill and Joel Handreck.
