Reynella just one win away from a Grand Final berth in the Southern Football League

Reynella are through to a second semi-final date with reigning premier Flagstaff Hill following their comprehensive 46-point Qualifying Final win over Happy Valley in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. The Wine Flies lost just two games for 2021 and they look the only obvious threat to the Falcons winning their sixth consecutive flag. It was a tight first half with Happy Valley taking it right up to Reynella as the Wine Flies took a slender, five-point lead to halftime. The all-important third quarter was where the game changed completely as Reynella piled on seven goals to two to take a very handy 34-point lead to the last change. A further two goals to none in the last term saw Reynella win 15.5 (95) to 7.7 (49). Callan Semple (4), Bailey Marshman (3), Bradley Potter (3) and Dylan Roser (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the winners. Ben Geytenbeek kicked three goals for the Vikings and Josh Sterzl kicked two. Tyler Davies, Steven Farrelly, Thomas Thomson, Josh Frisby, Nicholas Dixon and Sam Whitbread were named best players for the Wine Flies. For Happy Valley, Ben Ryan, Justin Schurgott, Geytenbeek, Dwayne Ruddock and Liam Hamilton were their best. The Vikings live to fight another day as they head to Noarlunga on Sunday to play Morphett Vale in the knockout first semi-final.

Morphett Vale came from behind to defeat Noarlunga by seven points in the Elimination Final at Aldinga yesterday and booked a date with Happy Valley in Sunday’s first semi-final. After being runners-up for the past two seasons, it’s the end of the road for the Shoes after week one of the finals. It was an interesting match with 13 of the 14 goals for the day kicked with the breeze. Noarlunga had the breeze in the first term and took a 14-point lead at quarter time after Morphett Vale kicked the only goal of the match into the wind. Morphett Vale hit back in the second quarter to lead by five points at halftime before Noarlunga again took the lead at the last change by 14 points. The Emus had the wind behind them in the last quarter as they roared home to kick 4.1 to 0.4 and win 8.3 (51) to 6.8 (44). Ryan Fitzpatrick, Daniel Noble and Denis Iljcesen all kicked two goals for Morphett Vale. Best for Morphett Vale were Steven Byrne, Michael Smith, Connor Lock, Aiden Baker and Daniel Earl. For Noarlunga, Josh Thewlis, Bailey Snelling, Jake Anderson, Thomas Mott and Nathan Schulz were named as their best players.
