Roosters on the up in the Great Southern Football League Women's competition

Strathalbyn won their fifth game of the season yesterday with a 23-point win over Victor Harbor to consolidate their spot in the top-four of the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League. In a low scoring affair at Encounter Bay, the Roosters won 3.6 (24) to 0.1 (1). Megan Rich, Tijana Jokic and Georgie Pater were the goalkickers for Strathalbyn, while the Roosters best players were Tess Huxtable, Heidi Groom, Pater, Tessa Grant, Katie Ehlers and Eliza Fergusen.


McLaren Eagles remained in second spot on the ladder following their convincing 83-point win against Yankalilla at Willunga. McLaren led by 21 points at quarter time, 46 points at halftime and 55 points at the last change before winning 13.12 (90) to 1.1 (7). Sheena Peters was a standout up forward for the Eagles with five goals, while Layla Rogers and Hannah Georgeson chipped in with two goals each. Kimberley Rowe kicked the only goal for Yankalilla. Best for McLaren were Tiffany Copley, Georgeson, Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg, Peters and Rogers. For the Tigers, Nari Wright, Tegan Cross and Rowe were among their side's best players. 


Willunga continued on their merry way in 2022 with a 75-point win at home against Mount Compass. The Demons held a handy 34-point lead at halftime and kicked six goals to zero in the second half to win 12.10 (82) to 1.1 (7). Willunga had nine goalkickers including Clare Holmes, Emily Cooper and Abby Woodward, who all kicked two goals. Georgina Thomas kicked the only goal for the Bulldogs. Willunga had plenty of good players including Holly Ifould, Caitlin Radbone, Stellar Remphrey-Pese, Holmes and Grace Duffy. Best players for Mount Compass included Thomas, Amy Vitkunas and Kiara Upitis.


Goolwa/Port Elliot had the bye.
