The annual Victor Harbor triathlon has been an institution on the south coast for almost 30 years.

A fall from his bike made Sid James a quadriplegic, but nothing could dim his passion for triathlon. He started the Victor Harbor event and made it into the biggest and most successful triathlon in South Australia.

The 2020 event takes place on Sunday 8 March in and around Encounter Lakes and offers five categories, plus two fun runs, to suit every age and level of fitness.

The popular short course triathlon - 150m swim, 8km cycle and 1.5km run - starts at 8.30am.

The standard distance state championship - 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run - starts at 9.30am.

A recent addition to the program is the sprint distance triathlon - 750km swim, 20km cycle and 5km run – starting at 10.15am.

The adults’ mini triathlon - 50m swim, 2km cycle and 400m run – starts at 1.30pm, while the kids’ mini triathlon - 50m swim or wade, 2km cycle and 400m run – starts 10 minutes later.

The 5km fun run starts at 9am and the 10km fun run starts at 10.30am. It’s also fine to walk the route and enjoy the scenery

The triathlon South Australia State Series race serves as the 2020 standard distance state championship event and national qualifying event.

All kids triathlon finishers receive a medallion.
