SACA Country Cup review

The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Senior Country Cup was held this week with six teams from throughout the state competing, including Fleurieu & Districts (F & D). The Fleurieu boys had a week of mixed results with two wins from four games to finish in third spot. F & D beat the eventual champions Northern on Tuesday by two wickets and they accounted for Yorke Peninsula yesterday by five wickets. Tight losses to Barossa & Light (six runs) and South East (one wicket), put paid to their championship hopes.

Skipper Jared Marston (Mypolonga) led the way with the bat with 140 runs at an average of 35.00, while Jayden Crees (Goolwa) led the competition with 10 wickets at 13.20. Crees won the prestigious Athol Payne Medal as Fleurieu & Districts' Player of the Carnival, while he and Marston were named in the SA Country Cup Team of the Year.

The carnival was won by Northern after they defeated South East by five wickets in the Grand Final at Karen Rolton Oval yesterday.
