Saints alive in Southern Football League

Christies Beach kept their finals hopes alive with an upset 28-point win at Morphett Vale during round 15 action of the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. ‘Christies’ got out of the blocks quickly to lead by 30 points at quarter time. They extended their lead to 36 points at halftime, and then 37 points at the last change, before winning 15.9 (99) to 9.17 (71). Captain Nathan Stock kicked four goals for the Saints, while Jacob Crate and Blake Carter kicked three goals each. Anthony Biemans and Khori Mills-Richardson kicked two goals each for the Emus. Best players for Christies Beach included Michael Mazey, Jacob Crate, Josiah Sheppard, Stock and Jonty Murphy. Morphett Vale were best served by Biemans, Connor Lock, Liam Corrie, Scott Carpenter and Braydan Hartwig.


Reynella all but wrapped up the minor premiership following their comfortable 47-point win against Cove. A tight first quarter saw the Wine Flies leading by just four points at quarter time, but it was the second and third quarters where Reynella did all the damage. They kicked 11 goals to four to take an unassailable 52-point lead into the final term. The Cobras narrowly won the last quarter, but Reynella eventually won 17.12 (114) to 10.7 (67). Bradley Potter kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance for Reynella and he was well supported by Bailey Marshman with four goals and Angus Rowntree who kicked three. Harrison Riddle and Alex Marra kicked two goals each for the Cobras. Joining Potter in the best players for Reynella were Dylan Roser, Josh Frisby, Marshman and Sam Whitbread. The Cobras best players were Jayden Morton, Oliver Moore, James Farrugia, Lincoln Holder and Marra.


Flagstaff Hill consolidated their spot in the top-three with a crushing 116-point win against Aldinga. The Falcons led by 21 points at quarter time, 43 points at halftime, and 66 points at the last change, before kicking nine goals to zero in the last quarter to win 24.14 (158) to 6.6 (42). ‘Flaggies’ had 11 different goalkickers with Blake Aldridge (4), Samuel Smith (3), Ryan Mountford (3) and Mitchell Johnson (3) leading the way. Brady O’Hanlon kicked three goals for Aldinga and Cameron Jarrett slotted two majors. Huw Channing, Brad Kirk, Brad Patterson, Ben Burbridge and Ethan Wildman were named in the best players for Flagstaff Hill. Angus Stangewitz, Bailey Pilmore and Luke Watson were among the best players for the Sharks.


Happy Valley consolidated their spot in the top-five with a percentage-boosting 139-point victory against Port Noarlunga. The Vikings led by 67 points at halftime and kicked a further 14 goals to three in the second half to win 26.19 (175) to 5.6 (36). Ben Geytenbeek had a day out for Happy Valley with 10 goals, while Clint Calyun kicked three majors for the Cockle Divers. Tate Coleman, Joel Beeche, Geytenbeek, Justin Schurgott and Joshua Dwyer Sterzl were named best for Happy Valley. Best for Port Noarlunga included Calyun, Josh Johns and Kaleb Hesse.
