Western Districts got their Kangaroo Island Football League (KIFL) season off to the perfect start with a comfortable 46-point win over Dudley United at Penneshaw yesterday. The first half was tight with Western Districts leading by just six points at halftime. The Saints took over in the second half as they kicked nine goals to three to win 13.15 (93) to 7.5 (47). New recruit Peter Hoban was best on ground and he was well supported by Tim Larcombe, Brad Crabb, Dylan Lockett and Damon Weatherspoon. Callum Willson, Jack Gurney and Hugo Sharkey were among the best players for Dudley United. Lloyd Coulson (4) and Lleyton Hedges (3) were the multiple goal kickers for Western Districts, while Kyron Pepper led the way for the Eagles with three majors.
Kingscote also made a good start to their 2022 season following their 42-point win at home against Parndana, 12.13 (85) to 6.7 (43). New recruit Peter Rolfe was best on ground for Kingscote and he was ably supported by Zak Siemer, Jack Grimes, Blake Florance and Paul Green. Zack Trethewey, Trad McMulkin and Jack Sexton were among the best players for the Roosters. Green (5) and Rolfe (2) were the leading goal kickers for Kingscote, while Ben Larsson and McMulkin each kicked two goals for Parndana.
