Saints rise in the Southern Football League

Christies Beach moved within a game of the top-five after an upset seven-point win against Noarlunga during round 10 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Old Noarlunga today. Noarlunga got off to an excellent start to lead by 25 points at quarter time, and they still led by 21 points at the main break. From halftime onwards however, it was all Christies Beach as they kicked six goals to two to win 11.6 (72) to 10.5 (65). Christies Beach skipper Michael Mazey kicked four goals, while Tom Anderson kicked three goals for the Shoes. Best players for the Saints included Josh de Roode, Mazey, Jace Daris, Thomas Kirwan, Nathan Sable and Austin Hogg. The Shoes were best served by Tom Anderson, Nick Mott, Beau Donaldson, Terry Kathopoulis, Sam Goldfinch and Josh Beard.


Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their second game in a row after defeating Cove by four points at Hallett Cove today. The Cobras held a handy 16-point lead at halftime, before Ironbank Cherry Gardens hit back in the third term to draw level at the last change. The Thunderers kicked three goals to two in the last term to run out winners 14.11 (95) to 13.13 (91). Elijah Ware kicked four goals for Ironbank Cherry Gardens, while Chris Buersch and Corey Nesbitt kicked three goals each for Cove. The Thunderers best included Max Matheson, Jake Pokoina, Alec Bryars, Mitchell Davis, Chris Morgan and Joshua Brown. Best for the Cobras were Dean Hancock, Samuel Kendall, Alex Marra, Buersch, Dylan Seirch and Jethro Buss.


Port Noarlunga got back in the winners circle with a comfortable 31-point win at home against Happy Valley. The Cockle Divers won every quarter on their way to a 14.12 (96) to 9.11 (65) victory. Nathaniel Paredes kicked four goals for ‘Porties’, while Harry Davenport kicked two goals for the Vikings. Best players for the third-placed Port Noarlunga included Liam Lusty, Jayden Close, Darcy Warman, Aaron Peterson, Liam O’Connor-Dawkins and Oliver Goss. Happy Valley’s best players were Joel Beeche, Max Gill, Lachlan Hamilton, Billy Wilson, Ben Ryan and Charlie Eldridge.


Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill won their ninth game of the season with a 117-point win at Morphett Vale. The Falcons led by just eight points at quarter time, before kicking 11 goals to three in the second term to take an unassailable 57-point lead at halftime. A further 10 goals to one in the second half saw ‘Flaggies’ win 25.15 (165) to 7.6 (48). Nathan Beenham kicked six goals for Flagstaff Hill and he was well supported by Sam Smith who slotted five majors (28 for the season). Aiden Baker and Dylan Williams kicked two goals each for the Emus. Jordan Etto, Bradley Patterson, Beenham, Smith, Reece Milsom and Caleb McCormick were named best players for Flagstaff Hill, while for Morphett Vale, Daniel Bode, Dylan Miller and Scott Carpenter were among their best performers. 


Reynella won their fifth game in a row following a comprehensive 87-point win at Aldinga today. The Wine Flies won every quarter as they kicked an inaccurate 15.23 (113) to Aldinga’s 3.8 (26). Reynella had 10 different goalkickers with Marc Borholm, Luke Cooper, Brad Potter, Mitch Scotland and Sam Whitbread all kicking two majors. Best for Reynella included Dylan Roser, Scotland, Whitbread, Bailey Marshman, Alex Lawley and Joel Stone. Best for Aldinga included Matthew Beinke, Josiah Sheppard and Brayden Hooper.
