The Service SA centre at Seaford Meadows will join four others across Adelaide in opening six days a week.
Starting from May 6, Service SA centres in Elizabeth, Marion, Modbury, Prospect and Seaford Meadows will be open on Saturdays from 9am-5pm.
The aim is to provide greater flexibility for customers to access important services and information, offering more convenience - particularly for customers who work or have commitments during regular business hours.
The state government says opening on Saturdays at these locations will give customers who need to visit a centre in person another flexible option, complementing the increasing range of online services. service.sa.gov.au.
Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis says the previous government had planned to close two of these busiest Service SA centres as a cost cutting measure.
“We have listened to feedback from many people who find it difficult to take time out of their day to get to a Service SA centre during normal business hours, particularly those that are tied up with family and work commitments during the week.
“By opening on Saturdays at five Service SA locations across Adelaide, we’re making it easier to drop in and access important services and advice – whether that’s on the way to the shops or coming home from kids’ sport.
“We are currently bringing on more staff to ensure we can cater for the additional operating hours, and I thank our Service SA staff for their willingness be flexible to support more easily accessible services for South Australians.”
Many common transactions can be completed online on the Service SA website, including renewing licence and vehicle registration, updating address details, or ordering a personalised number plate.
The five locations have been specifically chosen to open on Saturdays as they are some of the most popular.
An additional 12 full-time staff will be allocated to these centres to meet the anticipated demand for services.
Service SA staff have been consulted since last year to ensure a smooth introduction of Saturday trading.
The state government will closely monitor the new Saturday arrangements once they begin, with any necessary adjustments to opening hours to be made to best meet the needs of customers.
