Three Fleurieu schools are part of the state government’s $1.3 billion school upgrade program.
Victor Harbor R-7 School has been allocated $5 million under the program. Initial concept plans include construction of a new building providing flexible learning spaces for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) with indoor/outdoor connectivity.
There will also be replacement and remediation of external structures; demolition of ageing infrastructure; and landscaping to connect the new construction to the existing surrounds.
Aldinga Beach B-7 School has also been allocated $5 million for a new permanent modular building, which includes general and serviced learning areas, breakout spaces with associated amenities, withdrawal/meeting/flexible teacher preparation areas, and storage with external decking and connections to the rest of the school.
A new covered outdoor learning area over a main court area will facilitate whole of school gatherings and there will be two new modular toilets blocks.
An 11.1 million allocation for Mount Compass Area School will include a new administration building with reception area, offices, meeting rooms, staff room, storage areas and staff amenities.
A new resource centre building will encompass student services, a sick room, offices and storage areas as well as home economics, canteen, teacher preparation and storage areas.
A new technology studies and art building will have general learning spaces, teacher preparation, storage areas, student and staff amenities.
There are also plans for a new classroom building with two general learning spaces and teacher preparation; a defined entrance to the school linked to the new administration building to provide street presence; and appropriate disability access to facilities.
All the plans are being considered and reviewed in line with the transition of year 7 into high school by 2022 and are subject to further consideration and may change.
Premier Steven Marshall says the $1.3 billion education infrastructure build is delivering thousands of construction jobs for South Australians at a crucial time for the economy.
“With so many of these projects now underway, spanning from Ceduna to Mount Gambier, this massive building program is playing a key role in supporting jobs across the state as we recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic.
“Overall, more than 100 school upgrades will be delivered in the coming years as part of our record breaking investment in education, providing a solid pipeline of jobs and delivering a generational upgrade of schools across the state.”
More information on the education build can be found on the Department for Education website.
