SCIB up to second spot in Hills Cricket

An Aaron Thompson century has fired Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) to a second win on the trot, after they defeated Uraidla by 151 runs during round five action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Uraidla yesterday. SCIB batted first with a 209-run second wicket stand between Thompson and Lachlan Knight dominating their innings of 4/277. Thompson top scored with 117 from 118 balls (14 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), his fourth ‘A’ grade century, while Knight finished with 85 (122). Simon Parker was the best of the Uraidla bowlers with 2/36 (9). The home side were never in the run chase as they were bowled out in the 32nd over for 126. Parker completed a good all-round double with a top-scoring 52 from 61 balls (5 x 4’s, 1 x 6), while Ben McGowan (3/18), Beau Harwood (2/11), Ethan Dinning (2/24) and Andy Adams (2/30) were the leading wicket takers for Scott Creek Ironbank.

Stirling remained undefeated after a 40-run win over Meadows at Stirling yesterday. The Eagles batted first with Sean McCullum (54) and Harrison Webb (44) putting on 83 runs for the third wicket as the reigning premier posted 8/206 from their 45 overs. Oscar Tydeman (2/14), Rohan Reid (2/24), Brett Varnhagen (2/33) and Luke Tonkin (2/48) were the multiple wicket takers for Meadows. The visitors were in early trouble in the run chase at 2/25, before Rohan Reid (48) and Haydn Reid (34) came together to give their side a chance. However, it was a bridge too far for the Bulldogs as they were bowled out in the 45th over for 166. All six Stirling bowlers took wickets with Jack Read (2/20), Ezekiel Hemming (2/30) and Julian Zytnik (2/32) the leading wicket takers.

Mt Lofty won their second game of the season after defeating Kangarilla by 25 runs at Heathfield Oval. The Redcaps batted first and were in trouble at 4/52 in the 20th over. At one stage, Kangarilla bowler Ryan Grimmond had the amazing figures of 3/1, before finishing with 3/27 from his nine overs. Stewart Leigh was joined at the crease by Ryan Pistola in what would become a match-defining partnership worth 147 runs for the fifth wicket. Pistola went on to score 56 (76), while Leigh top scored with 82 from 72 balls (3 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s) as the Redcaps put up 7/211 from their 45 overs. Kangarilla’s run chase started well with Jono Makai and Steve Featherstone adding 76 for the first wicket before Makai fell for 55 (58). Featherstone (41) and skipper Jake Turnbull (32) got ‘Kangies’ up to 2/147, but with the required run rate rising, Mt Lofty turned the screws to hold Kangarilla to 9/186. Brad Hutton (4/40) and Josh Healey (3/55) were the leading wicket takers for Mt Lofty, while Josh Mitchell bowled a miserly spell of 0/16 from his nine overs.

Aldgate had the bye.
