The first ever working bee at the Port Elliot Community Garden will be held tomorrow from 1 – 3pm.
The garden is being established at Reserve 60 on Elliot Street, next to the CFS and SES headquarters.
This will be the first on-site gathering for the new community project and a chance to be involved from the ground up.
Members of the Port Elliot Town and Foreshore Improvement Association have been working for 18 months to establish a lease over the property from Alexandrina Council.
The garden is being established to promote social and mental health and community cohesion and promote healthy lifestyles and access to fresh vegetables.
A grant from the Commonwealth Stronger Communities program will enable the construction of a tool shed and meeting area.
Workers attending the site tomorrow will do a general tidy up and mark out where proposed structures will be and get to know each other.
Plans for the garden will be on show.
Workers will need to bring their own gloves, hat, chair and cup but coffee, tea and snacks will be provided. If any rakes, rubbish bags or tubs could also be donated or brought to be used on the day that would be helpful.
Workers will also need to wear enclosed shoes.
