SES Community update - Mannum to Lower Lakes

Peak River Murray flows have now reached Mannum and will reach Murray Bridge, Jervois, Wellington, and then enter the Lower Lakes over the coming days.

Communities should expect to see and prepare for new areas of flooding.

As the peak flow progresses down to the lower part of the River Murray and into the Lower Lakes, a combination of these inflows, wind and high tides mean that shack areas of Milang and low-lying areas of the Lower Lakes are likely to experience rising water levels.

Strong wind can also push water back up the River Murray, which may affect river heights.

Existing levees in the area will become further engaged and people are urged to be vigilant and inspect their levees on a regular basis.

If people see any defects or have concerns regarding the safety or integrity of their levee they should contact the South Australian State Emergency Service (SASES) on 132 500.

Access across the river remains available at Murray Bridge.

With a large number of tourists continuing to visit these communities to enjoy the area and views of the River Murray, the SASES encourages people to check the latest road and ferry closures at sa.gov.au and ensure they are able to travel safely throughout the area and relocate to a place of safety if required.

The SASES will have personnel in the area over the coming days and will continue with regular air reconnaissance of River Murray communities. The height of the increased flows remains very difficult to forecast.

The best advice for communities is to be prepared and stay up to date with the latest information and warnings. If you decide to leave, leave early.
