The SES says get prepared this weekend, before the state’s first blast of winter weather hits on Sunday and Monday.

An intense low-pressure system will bring severe rain and wind conditions to parts of the state, particularly about Adelaide and the Mount Lofty Ranges with significant falls possible.

The current weather forecast says areas around Noarlunga could receive up to 15mm on Sunday and as much as 40mm of rain on Monday.

There is a potential for local, minor flash-flooding, depending on the severity of showers and storms.

Free sandbags are available today from a number of SES locations, including Noarlunga, Mount Barker and Coromandel Valley.

Robert Charlton, State Duty Officer with the SES, said the brunt of the storm is likely to be felt in South Australia on Sunday evening and throughout Monday.

“Preparation remains the best strategy for people wanting to reduce the impact of severe weather to themselves and their properties,’’ he said.

“Something as simple as spending a little time ensuring your gutters and downpipes are cleaned and clear of clutter can help ensure people don’t have to deal with water running down the inside walls of their homes.

“The SASES will always be available to help the community in times of need, but prevention is much better than cure.’’

Rough seas are also expected to be further elevated on Monday afternoon with potential for higher-than-normal tides and large waves along exposed western coasts, extending to southern coasts from later Monday into Tuesday.

The SASES advises the following:

-Monitor the local conditions by tuning into your local ABC radio or checking the SASES or Bureau of Meteorology websites.

-Follow the SASES on social media (Facebook or Twitter) for regular updates.

-Call 132 500 if you need SASES assistance, call Triple Zero (000) if the matter is life threatening.

The SASES provides instructional videos and advice on how to prepare for severe storms and flooding, as well as sandbag locations to assist residents in at risk areas, at ses.sa.gov.au.

Flood Warnings have also been issued for South Australia along the Diamantina River in the far north of the state due to increased water flows from recent flooding in Queensland.
