Southern Football League (SFL) competition starts this afternoon with a new-look season featuring eight teams and nine rounds of matches. Adinga has chosen not to field an ‘A’ grade team in 2020 while Noarlunga, after originally withdrawing, are back in. Flagstaff Hill will be looking for an amazing fifth consecutive premiership after winning their fourth on the trot with an upset Grand Final victory in 2019 over the previously undefeated Noarlunga. The Shoes will look to bounce back this year after a near-perfect season fell at the last hurdle. Christies Beach (3rd in 2019), Port Noarlunga (4th) and Reynella (5th) will once again push for finals action while Happy Valley, Morphett Vale and Cove will be hopeful of playing in the major round. Christies Beach will be buoyed by the return of key forward Daniel Nobes from Waikerie. Nobes kicked 341 goals in three seasons in the Riverland and the last time he played in the SFL, he kicked 109 goals in the 2016 season.
