SFLW - Round 3 review

Cove and Reynella had the honour of playing on Friday night at Cove to open round three of the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition. Unfortunately the game was abandoned in the third quarter due to a serious injury to a Reynella player. At that stage the Cobras let 1.3 (9) to 0.4 (4) and therefore Cove were awarded the match to remain undefeated and top of the SFLW ladder. Felicity Oliver was the sole goal kicker for the match whie the best players for Cove were Jaime Norup, Lara Ward, Lisa Hurcombe, Alana Tuohy-Lashmar and Tamara Zerna. Anja Bancevic, Sarah Bourn, Rebecca Denyer, Vanessa Graham and Zannah Loxton were named in the best players for Reynella.

Aldinga won their first game for the 2020 season in a tight and low scoring affair against Hackham at Aldinga Oval. The Sharks won by four points, 1.5 (11) to 1.1 (7). There were no goals scored in the first half with Aldinga’s goal coming in the third term courtesy of Jean-Louise Papps and Hackham kicking the only goal of the last term through Courtnie Noble. For the third game in a row, Jaimi Griffen was named best player for Aldinga and she was ably supported by Papps, Alison Szalanski, Kiara Lovett and Molly Flanagan-Sjoberg. Alana Browne, Chelsea Deeth, Noble, Samatha Smith and Rachel Cole were named in the best players for a plucky Hackham side.

Christies Beach moved up to third position after winning their second game of the season with a 17-point win at home against Morphett Vale. The visitors started well to lead by four points at quarter time before Christies hit back with the only goal of the second term to take a two point lead into halftime. The third quarter proved decisive as the Saints kicked two goals to zero for the term to turn for home with a handy 14 point buffer before finally winning 4.7 (31) to 2.2 (14). The Saints Melanie Koster was best on ground for the second time this season and she was well supported by Paige Kiley, Pamela May, Candice De Laine and Kelly Armstrong. Emma Morrison, Katelyn Wilson, Hannah Armstrong, Renee Harrison and Ashleigh Carr were amongst the best players for the Emus.
