What else would’st thou be doing on a Friday night in the Vale?

The Raw Shakespeare Project and Fox Creek Wines, McLaren Vale, present Shakespeare in the Vines on Friday 22 November.

This production consists of two one-act versions of Shakespeare’s well-known plays, The Merchant of Venice, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. In the atmospheric The Merchant of Venice we see the courtly love Bassanio has for Portia, which drives him to borrow money from Antonio to win the fair maid’s hands. We see the thwarted love Antonio has for Bassanio, and how it drives him to demand his pound of flesh.

Things take a decidedly lusty turn in The Merry Wives of Windsor as Sir John Falstaff decides to fund his retirement using Master Ford’s money. The only complication is Master Ford. Falstaff’s solution is to seduce Mistress Ford which, owing to Mistress Ford’s awareness of the situation, may not go quite the way he plans.

Doors open at 5.30pm for live acoustic music from then until the performance starts at 6.30pm.

Bring your own (low) chair or picnic rug, and pre-order a platter to enjoy as the sun goes down.
