Share the secret world of snakes of the Fleurieu

Second Nature Conservancy will host a seminar on snakes of the Fleurieu at the Victor Harbor library on Tuesday 26 March.

Toxinologist and conservationist Peter Mirtschin will talk about the various snake species in the local region and their role in the environment.

He will discuss the different types of snakes found in the area, from tiger snakes to browns, and give insights into the coexistence of snakes and humans.

Participants will discover how to safely interact with snakes and what to do in case of an encounter.

Peter will also talk about the role of snakes in farming and the environment and the uses of snake venom in medicine and research.

He has published more than 70 scientific papers on venom research, snake ecology, conservation and snake behaviour, as well as several books on dangerous Australian snakes.

Second Nature (formerly GWLAP) is a not for profit, community-based environmental organisation.

The session is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of snakes and how to stay safe while sharing space with them.

Supported by Green Adelaide, this free event will run from 2.30pm to 4pm. Reserve a spot via Humanitix.
