Shared use cycle path design chosen

Design plans for the shared use cycling and walking path between Willunga and Aldinga have been finalised, with construction expected to start in early February.

The path will provide a 5.8km link between Aldinga Road/ Mainwaring Street intersection in Willunga and Main South Road/ Port Road intersection in Aldinga.

Onkaparinga Council has been developing plans for the path since 2019, when the community submitted initial ideas via the state government’s Fund My Neighbourhood program.

This provided $150,000 funding to investigate potential routes for an Aldinga-Willunga cycleway.

Four options were put forward for consultation, ranging in estimated cost from $2.84 million to $6.14 million.

In consultation with the Department of Planning and Transport, the council chose  Option 1, the lowest cost route that provides direct cycling connections to the townships of Aldinga and Willunga.

It has developed the design based on community feedback and in accord with the South Australian Government Fund My Neighbourhood criteria.

Project information can be found on the council website. Design details can also be viewed online

The City of Onkaparinga consulted with the community about localised issues that influenced the design process.
