The route for a shared use cycling and walking path between Willunga and Aldinga has been finalised, subject to a final round of community consultation.

The City of Onkaparinga says that thanks to state government funding, the path will provide a 5.8km link for families, riders, runners and tourists.

It will run between the Aldinga Road/Mainwaring Street intersection in Willunga and the Main South Road/Port Road intersection in Aldinga.

The council has received $3 million in state government funding towards construction of the path with the remainder of the cost included in its draft budget for 2023-24.

The shared use path will be off-road along Aldinga Road and the majority of Flour Mill Road.

An on-road walking/cycling connection will be incorporated for a small segment along Flour Mill Road and Free Lane. The alignment of the path can be viewed on the plan.

Construction of the path will be completed in two sections, with construction of the first section, on council land, expected to start in August.

The second section, on Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) managed roadway requires DIT approval for the design.

It is anticipated that construction on this section of the path, along Aldinga Road, will begin in late 2023.

The council is now working on detailed designs of the two sections as depicted on the plan and would like to hear any local knowledge, questions or concerns from the community.

Consultation is open until 4 June. Go to the City of Onkaparinga YourSay page for full details.
