Sharks circling as Aldinga pick up their second win for the season in the Southern Football League

Aldinga won their second game of 2021 following their 11-point win at Port Noarlunga during round six action in the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. Incredibly it was the first time in 71 years that the Sharks had tasted victory against the Cockle Divers. The game was tight all day with Aldinga leading by two points at quarter time and one point at halftime. Port Noarlunga hit the front at the last change by two points but the margin could have been greater as Port Noarlunga had 18 scoring shots to Aldinga’s 11 as the teams turned for home. Aldinga lifted in the last term to kick four goals to two and come away with a 10.8 (68) to 7.15 (57) victory. Timmy Sumner continued his good season as he kicked four majors for the Sharks. Bailey Pilmore also kicked four goals for Aldinga. Dylan Williams was the only multiple goalkicker for the Cockle Divers with three goals. Angus Stangewitz was named best for Aldinga and he was ably supported by Byron Sumner, Tyler Flintham, Jack O’Hanlon and Michael Balas. Russell Curyer, Paul Randall and Aaron Peterson were among ‘Porties’ best.

Reynella remained undefeated and on top of the ladder following a hard fought 22-point win against Happy Valley at Reynella. The home side got off to a fast start to lead by 38 points at halftime but the Vikings came right back into the contest in the third term to see scores locked up at the last change. The undefeated Wine Flies, with support from their home crowd, steadied to kick 4.3 to 0.5 in the last quarter to win 11.9 (75) to 7.11 (53). Reynella’s win sets up a huge clash next Saturday against the other undefeated team in 2021, Flagstaff Hill. Bradley Potter and Callan Semple each kicked three goals for Reynella while Josh Dwyer Sterzl kicked four goals for Happy Valley. Bailey England, Nick McLean, Potter, Robert Irra and Jason Farrier were best for Reynella. For Happy Valley, James Hay, Caleb Dolman and Dwayne Ruddock were among their best players.

Morphett Vale are back on the winning list with a convincing 58-point victory against Cove on Saturday at Hallett Cove. Morphett Vale started strongly as they kicked 11 goals in the first half to take a 45-point lead to the long break. A further five goals to two in the second half saw the Emus win 16.9 (105) to 6.11 (47). Aiden Baker and Joel Handreck each kicked four goals for the winners while Ryan Need kicked two goals for the Cobras. Best players for Morphett Vale were Steven Byrne, Jack Dal Santo, Handreck, Daniel Earl and Denis Iljcesen. Dean Hancock, Oliver Moore, Need, Ben Pittard and Hayden Kernahan were best for Cove.

Flagstaff Hill notched their fifth victory of 2021 to consolidate second spot on the SFL ladder with a comfortable 85-point win at Christies Beach. The Falcons led by 20 points at quarter time, 38 points at halftime and 65 points at the last change before winning 17.13 (115) to 4.6 (30). Daniel Webb continued his good recent goalkicking form with five majors for the Falcons. Sam Smith, Dan Butcher and Mitchell Johnson all chimed in with three majors as well. Ryan Grimmond kicked two goals for the Saints.
