Victor Harbor’s own Jocelyn Neumueller has won her World Para Surfing Championship event in Pismo Beach, California.
The 26 year-old local is part of the Australian team currently in the US for the event.
She showed excellent form throughout the event, winning both her heats in the prone 2 division.
Early on Sunday morning SA time, Jocelyn pulled on her wetsuit for the final day of the competition.
She emerged from the waves as world champion and with a gold medal to bring home.
Jocelyn is due to land back in Sydney early tomorrow morning and says the event was a great experience.
“I’m stoked to have come away with the win in a very competitive field,” she said.
Jocelyn has been supported in America by fellow Victor locals Vance Gordon, Matt Walsh and Matt Henwood.
Posting on Facebook after her win, Jocelyn thanked her support crew and all the people who had followed her journey to get to California and the world championships.
Before competing at an elite level in surfing Jocelyn was a Paralympic level canoeist and competed in the 2016 Rio Games.
Her left arm become paralysed during a training session and she took up surfing in 2020 as part of her recovery.
Twenty-four nations competed in the championships which gathers the world’s best para surfers to compete in a Paralympic style competition.
The Irunkandjis (as the Australian team is known) won six medals across five divisions.
