Shoes a step closer to finals action in the Southern Football League

Noarlunga consolidated their position in the top three on the ladder following a tough 14-point win at home against Morphett Vale during round 11 action of the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. Morphett Vale started well to lead by eight points at quarter time, before Noarlunga hit back in the second term to take a nine-point lead at halftime. The Shoes kicked five goals to four after the long break to win 10.4 (64) to 7.8 (50). Vic Robertson (4), Tom Anderson (3) and Zac Williams (3) were the goalkickers for Noarlunga, while Daniel Noble kicked four goals for Morphett Vale. Best players for the Shoes were Jarrad Liebelt, Michael Balas, Vic Robertson, Bailey Snelling and Tom Anderson. Best for the Emus were Anthony Biemans, Khori Mills-Richardson, Noble, Liam Corrie and Dylan Williams.


Flagstaff Hill won their second game in a row to move up to third spot on the ladder following a comprehensive 89-point win at home against Christies Beach. The Falcons led by 40 points at halftime, before kicking a further 10 goals to three in the second half to win 16.18 (114) to 3.7 (25). Nathan Beenham kicked four goals for Flagstaff Hill and he was well supported by Sam Smith and Daniel Butcher who kicked three goals each. Rhys Mundy kicked two goals for the Saints. David Kearsley was named best for the Falcons and he was ably supported by Mitchell Johnson, Luke Beenham, Max Clifton, Tynan Carney and Butcher. Best players for ‘Christies’ included James Conlon, Jacob Crate and Josh Semmens.


Cove Cobras won their fifth game of 2022 with a 61-point victory over Port Noarlunga. The Cobras’ win leaves them just percentage outside the top-five. On Saturday, Cove travelled to Port Noarlunga and they started well to lead by 20 points at the first break. They extended their lead to 45 points at halftime and the game was as good as over. ‘Porties’ battled hard in the second half but Cove were too strong as they ran out winners 17.10 (112) to 7.9 (51). Ryan Need was on fire for the Cobras with eight goals in a best-on-ground performance. Jayden Morton chimed in with five goals for the Cobras, while Scott Grieve kicked four. Matthew Coulthard and Clint Calyun kicked two goals each for ‘Porties’. Joining Need in the best players for Cove were Jackson Riddle, James Farrugia, Grieve and Morton. Coulthard was named best for Port Noarlunga along with Josh Johns, Jordan Zeitz, Liam O’Connor-Dawkins and McKale O’Flaherty. 


Reynella got back in the winners circle this round with a comprehensive 56-point win at Happy Valley. Reynella jumped out of the blocks to lead by 33 points at quarter time and the game was basically over. Happy Valley battled hard for the rest of the game but the Wine Flies were too strong as they won 17.13 (115) to 9.5 (59). Josh Frisby (4), Marc Borholm (3), Bailey Marshman (3) and Brad Potter (3) were the leading goalkickers for Reynella, while Ben Geytenbeek also kicked three goals for Happy Valley. Reynella’s best players were Sam Whitbread, Borholm, Marshman, Robert Irra and Nick McLean. Happy Valley were best served by Tate Coleman, Jayden Little, Liam Hamilton, Geytenbeek and Damon Birbeck.
