Shoes back in the winners circle in the Great Southern Cricket Association

Noarlunga have won their first game in 2021 following a five-wicket victory over Port Elliot as round eight action concluded in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA). The Shoes started the day at 0/7 in pursuit of the home sides day one total of 128. Jason Scarff and Anthony Burgess (11) added 36 for the first wicket before Burgess was dismissed. David Scarff was the next man in and he and brother Jason took the score to 65 before ‘Junior’ was dismissed for 30. Anthony Tucker (26 not out) joined David Scarff to add 40 runs for the third wicket before Scarff was dismissed for a top-scoring 34. Port Elliot fielded well and bowled tightly to make the visitors work hard for the win which was achieved with six overs remaining in the day. Simon Donaldson was the standout bowler for the Bloods with the fine figures of 4/22 from 21 overs. Donaldson now has 14 wickets at an average of 9.50 this season. Off-spinner Ben Griffiths bowled tightly and without luck to finish with 0/32 from 18 overs.


Willunga notched their eighth victory of the season with a comfortable eight-wicket win against Goolwa at Goolwa Oval to remain undefeated in 2020/21. Willunga resumed day two on 0/16 chasing Goolwa’s small total of 83. Joel Docking continued his excellent all-round season for the Demons to finish 40 not out. Docking has now scored 251 runs as well as claiming 13 wickets for the season. Braden Altus (13) and Sean McIvor (12) aided Docking in the run chase as the winning runs were knocked off before Tea. Goolwa skipper Josh Jones bowled well to take 1/9 from 10 overs while Fred Nissen (1/11), was the other wicket taker for the Magpies.


Due to inclement weather, no play was possible on day two of the match between Encounter Bay and McLaren Districts on the turf at Encounter Bay. McLaren Districts made 182 on day one with Encounter Bay 1/19 in reply.
