Minor premiers Noarlunga defeated Encounter Bay by seven wickets yesterday to move through to the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) Grand Final starting on Saturday. The Bays batted first and were off to a shaky start as they slipped to 3/35 on a hot and windy day at ‘Victor’. Finn Magor (37), Sam Hoffmann (29) and Blake Bailey (22) helped dig their side out of trouble, but no other Encounter Bay batsman reached double figures as they were bowled out in the 60th over for 149. Sean Williams was the pick of the Noarlunga bowlers with figures of 3/30 from 14 overs and he was well supported by Jett Holberton (2/18) and Jamie Diener (2/16). Noarlunga had 10 overs to bat before stumps and they finished the day in a strong position at 0/47. Cameron Bullard and Travis Bronstein continued on day two to add 94 runs for the first wicket before Bullard was dismissed for 46 (72 balls). Bronstein went on to top score with 52 not out (106 balls), while Jason Scarff chipped in with 19 not out (24 balls) as the winning runs came up in the 39th over.
Port Elliot will play their fourth Grand Final in five years after an 89-run win against Goolwa at Encounter Bay yesterday. Port Elliot batted first and got off to a great start with the opening pair of Tyson Levy and Ethan Spriggs adding 134 runs for the first wicket before Spriggs was dismissed on the stroke of the tea break for 35 (105 balls). Levy went just after the break for a hard-hitting 91 from 111 balls (11 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s), while Jaspa Tonkin (49), Patrick Dodd (24) and Joel Harris (24) made handy contributions as the Bloods posted an imposing 9/288 from their 70 overs. Sean McIvor (4/80), Josh Jones (3/56) and Matt Overall (2/70) were the leading wicket takers for the Magpies. Goolwa were under early pressure on day two as they slumped to 3/30 in the 19th over. Overall and Vic Robertson set about a rescue mission as they added 87 runs for the fourth wicket until Robertson went for 33 (87). Overall was standing in the way of Port Elliot and victory, but when he was dismissed for 89 (116), it was game over with Goolwa bowled out for 199. Port Elliot off-spinner Ben Griffiths spun a web with the fine figures of 7/68 from 19.2 overs, while veteran seamer Simon Donaldson took 2/58 from 19 overs.
