Shoes consolidate top three spot in the Southern Football League

Noarlunga consolidated third spot on the Southern Football League (SFL) ladder following a tight 12-point win against Christies Beach at Old Noarlunga on Saturday. It was the Shoes’ fifth consecutive victory and puts them two games clear of Happy Valley in fourth spot. The first half was a close affair with Noarlunga leading by seven points at quarter time before Christies Beach hit back in the second term to lead by four points at the long break. The all-important third quarter was dominated by the Shoes as they kicked 5.4 to 1.3 to lead by a handy 21 points at the last change. Christies Beach won the final term, as they kicked three goals to two, but it wasn’t enough as Noarlunga won 13.8 (86) to 11.8 (74). Vic Robertson kicked five goals for the Shoes to give him 34 for the season so far. Nathan Stock and Blake Carter each kicked three majors for the Saints. Zac Williams, Vic Robertson, Thomas Mott, Jake Anderson and Daniel Buechter were named best for the Shoes while for the Saints, Rhys Mundy, Aidan Coakley and Lee Hoey were among their best players.


Cove won their third game of 2021 and moved within a win of the top five following their 23-point win over Aldinga at Hallett Cove. It was all Cove in the first half as they led by 35 points at halftime with Aldinga failing to kick a goal in the first hour of the game. Aldinga managed to kick four goals in the third quarter but so did Cove as they turned for home with a 34-point lead. The Sharks kept pushing in the final term as they kicked four goals to two but the early damage was too much to overcome as Cove won 12.15 (87) to 8.16 (64). Scott Grieve kicked three goals for Cove while Cam Jarrett and Timmy Sumner each kicked two goals for Aldinga. Ryan Need, Nick Battista, Max Hulme, Ryan Muldoon and Hayden Kernahan were best for the Cobras. Byron Sumner, Mitch Jarrett and Bailey Pilmore were among the best players for Aldinga.


Flagstaff Hill kept their undefeated season intact with a comfortable 44-point win at Morphett Vale. The reigning premier played an excellent first half as they effectively ‘put the game to bed’ kicking 12 goals to five to lead by 42 points at halftime. The second half was an even affair with Morphett Vale kicking 3.2 to ‘Flaggies’ 2.10. The final scores were Flagstaff Hill 14.14 (98) to Morphett Vale 8.6 (54). Ryan Mountford and Daniel Nash each kicked four goals for the Falcons while Sam Smith slotted three majors. Denis Iljcesen kicked three goals for the Emus. Bradley Patterson, Mountford, David Kearsley (in his 250th ‘A’ grade game), Matthew Walton and Luke Beenham were best for the Falcons. Steven Byrne, Aiden Baker and Daniel Bode were best for Morphett Vale.


Reynella had a comfortable 86-point victory at Port Noarlunga to maintain second spot on the ladder. It was a tight opening quarter with each side kicking two goals but from the first break onwards, it was all Reynella as they kicked 14 goals to one to win 16.15 (111) to 3.7 (25). Bailey Marshman continued his good season for Reynella with six goals and Callan Semple kicked three. Dylan Williams kicked two goals for the Cockle Divers. Steven Farrelly, Marshman, Bailey England, Kaleb Wilden and Dylan Roser were best for the Wine Flies. For Port Noarlunga, Jayden Close, Sam Abbott and Josh Johns were their best.
