Shoes slip into top three in Southern Football League

Noarlunga moved up to third spot on the Southern Football League (SFL) ladder following their excellent 57-point win against reigning premier Flagstaff Hill during round five action at Old Noarlunga on Saturday. The Shoes haven’t beaten the Falcons since 2019, and they did so in style as they led at every change before running out winners 19.13 (127) to 10.10 (70). Noarlunga had plenty of goalkicking options with Vic Robertson leading the way with six majors. He was ably supported by Ben Jarman (3), Tom Anderson (2), Troy Johnson (2) and Callum Gaspari (2). Ryan Mountford kicked three goals for ‘Flaggies’. Jarman, Buechter, Vic Robertson, Tom Mott and Sam Beard were best for the Shoes, while for the Falcons, Nathan Beenham, David Kearsley and Brad Kirk were among their best.


Happy Valley are up to second spot on the SFL ladder following their 83-point win at Aldinga on Saturday. The game was basically over after the Vikings piled on 12 goals to four in the first half to lead by 55 points at the long break. A further nine goals to four after halftime saw Happy Valley triumph 21.13 (139) to 8.8 (56). Ben Geytenbeek continued his good form to kick nine goals for the Vikings, giving him 25 for the season so far. Best players for Happy Valley were Nick Frisby-Smith, Justin Schurgott, Geytenbeek, Kieren Bartlett and Jaxon McGregor-Dey. James Bailey kicked two goals for Aldinga and was named their best player, while other good players for the Sharks were Matthew Beinke, Mike Klocke, Bailey Pilmore and Scott O’Dea. 


Reynella moved two games clear on top of the ladder after crushing Port Noarlunga by 173 points at Reynella. The Wine Flies led by 47 points at quarter time, 90 points at halftime and 129 points at the last change before winning 28.11 (179) to 1.0 (6). New recruit Marc Borholm had a day out as he kicked a season-high 12 goals for the Wine Flies, while teammate Cameron McGree kicked six goals. Sam Roberts was the sole goalkicker for ‘Porties’. Sam Whitbread, Dylan Roser, Borholm, McGree and Bailey Marshman were best for Reynella. Jayden Close, Aaron Peterson and Kaleb Hesse battled hard for the Cockle Divers.


Christies Beach won their first game of the season with a thrilling two-point win over Cove under lights at Hallett Cove on Saturday night. The game was tight throughout with Cove leading by just three points at halftime. The visitors hit the front in the third term to take a nine-point lead into the last quarter. Cove kicked three goals to two in the final term but came up short as the Saints won 9.12 (66) to 9.10 (64). Best players for ‘Christies’ were Lee Hoey, Josiah Sheppard, Nathan Stock, Jacob Crate and Michael Mazey. Best for the Cobras were James Farrugia, Jake McCreery, Scott Grieve, Nick Battista and Corey Jackson.
